Caravan of the Future

The Brief

  • Entries must satisfy the touring holiday needs of a typical Club family, and include all the services currently available. (water, heat and light/power)
  • Consideration will only be given to designs that are transportable and weatherproof and comply with current highways regulations
  • The design should be applicable to a towable or self-propelled application.
  • When prepared for transportation, the design must be road legal.  Furthermore, the overall plan size of the habitation unit (ie excluding drawbar, chassis or base vehicle) should be no more than 5m long by 2.5m wide in its transportation configuration.
  • When prepared for habitation, the design must not occupy more than 8m x 8m of a 10m x 10m caravan site pitch, to allow adequate separation of adjacent units.
  • A detailed weight specification must be submitted. The prototype based on the winning design, however, may use alternative materials for reasons of cost, time or practicality.  Hence, the one-off prototype need not meet this specification.
  • Entrants are encouraged to make suggestions regarding prototype build (eg manufacturer, materials choice, timing etc), although Club assistance may be provided to the winner for this phase.
  • A detailed cost estimate for production build is not required, but designs are encouraged to be affordable based on a projection of current market costs and be viable for future production.
