Urban Caravan

"Striking style with good practicality"

Mathieu Collos

Working full time as an Architect in London, I graduated from Montpellier school of Architecture in 2002. Since then, I have been involved into a wide range of projects from freelance product design to new built residential.

In between two fields, my approach to design is similar no matter how big the project is. Form follows function. Having worked on high density residential in France, and being involved in a number of international  competitions, housing is a sector I am particularly interested in.

The Caravan of the Future Competition has been a good opportunity to study the small scale mobile habitat.  The idea of nomad housing is very adapted to our new lifestyle. Minimising the space to increase its functionality quickly became the core of this work.

I have recently developed a concept of “low energy urban house boat” as an affordable alternative to London’s soaring housing prices, and I am very keen to get this idea pushed further.
